ADULTS

JOY Women’s Ministry

“Jesus, Others, Yourself”

2nd Thursday of Each Month @ 6:30PM

J .O.Y. Fellowship was organized April 5"', 1994. The name J .O.Y. was chosen as we are to put Jesus first in our lives, Others second and Ourselves (you) last. Our goals are to provide fellowship and fun to the Women of Peace Church and an atmosphere of cooperation and Christian love with our sister organization, Women's Guild. We strive to serve the Lord through the work and outreach of our Church.

We begin our year in December with our annual potluck holiday meal and gift exchange. This is when our Secret Prayer Sister is revealed and a new name drawn for the next year for those who choose to participate. We also have our election of officers at that meeting.

During the Spring season we assist the Council and decoration committee for the Easter Breakfast, sometimes supplying candy. Along with Women's Guild we purchase Mothers' Day gifts for the Church and Elm Crest Manor. We provide corsages and boutonnieres for our Confirmands.

Summer season begins with a potluck picnic/meeting usually in June. Along with Women's Guild we purchase gifts for the men for Father's Day. We provide coffee and goodies after Church one month during the Summer. In August we host a Teachers' Luncheon to welcome back all the teachers and support staff of New Salem Almont schools.

Fall season begins with planning our annual Family Fall Festival Feast. J.O.Y Fellowship makes the turkeys, mashed potatoes and gravy for this wonderful Fall Feast with potluck also. We supply cookies for the annual Holiday Open House at Tracy's Sanctuary in Bismarck.

We also support many varied Missions- Child Evangelism, Campus Crusade, Teen Challenge and any within out Peace Church Family. We have an adopted Grandmother and Grandfather at Elm Crest Manor that we honor on their birthdays and Christmas.

We meet on the second Thursday evening at 6:30 with prayer and Bible Study or lesson. We welcome new members and new ideas or suggestions anytime.

MUSIC

There are many active musical organizations and opportunities at the Peace Church. The Sanctuary choir, Sanctuary hand bell choir, and Sunday School Youth music groups are regular parts of the Sunday worship experience.

The Sanctuary choir sings for worship service each week from September through June. The choir has more than 20 members and sings a variety of musical anthems including contemporary, gospel, traditional, and standard hymns. Practices are held on Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings before the worship service begins. The Sanctuary choir provides special music at Christmas (a cantata or concert is performed), church holidays, and for various church events. The Peace Choir often sings for community services and provides a concert yearly for the Elm Crest Manor residents in New Salem. The choir has a director and accompanist. Background music and percussion supplements are also used to enhance the anthems. People of all ages sing in the choir, and new members are always welcome.

The Peace Hand bell choir practices weekly and plays for church worship services approximately once a month. The hand bells also perform for holiday worship services, the Christmas concert, community events, and provide a concert for the residents at Elm Crest Manor in New Salem. The hand bell choir has a director. The hand bell season runs the same time the Sanctuary choir season is in session. The door is always open for new members. People with musical talents are welcome to play or sing special music in the months of June, July and August to enhance summer worship services. Additional talent is welcome year round and music opportunities are provided regularly.

The Peace Children's Sunday School music is divided into two groups. Preschool and primary grades comprise one sector and intermediate students through grade 7 sing in the second children's group. Instruments such as hand bells, boomwhackers, and percussion instruments are commonly used with the intermediate grades. A Christmas program is performed by the students during a December worship service. Students do special music once or twice a month during regular worship services while the Sunday school is in session. Music is encouraged each week during Sunday school with emphasis on service music before the children participate in the worship. An end of the school year celebration is provided in May as well as music for all ages during the summer Vacation Bible School program.

There are many active music organizations and opportunities at Peace Church for all ages. Contact the church office or music director anytime with questions or for more information.
